Deliberating Death in the Summer of 1968

Abstract

In 1968, an ad hoc Harvard committee defined what we now accept as brain death. Unlike groups convened elsewhere the same year to discuss the same question, the Harvard committee focused principally on defining brain death rather than on organ procurement.
