Fabrication of Ag@Ag2S Core–Shell Nanoparticles Sensitized TiO2Nanotube Arrays with High Photoelectrochemical Properties

Abstract
TiO2 nanotube arrays (TiO2 NTs) sensitized with Ag@Ag2S core–shell nanoparticles were successfully fabricated using the successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) technique to deposit Ag nanoparticles on TiO2 NTs, combined with a subsequent sulfurization treatment at room temperature. The structural investigation by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicate that the Ag@Ag2S core–shell nanoparticles grow uniformly on the walls of the TiO2 NTs. The TiO2 NTs/Ag@Ag2S exhibit more excellent photoelectrochemical properties and photocatalytic activities than those of TiO2 NTs and TiO2 NTs/Ag under visible light irradiation. The excellent activities are attributed to the synergistic effect between Ag, Ag2S and TiO2 NTs.
