The JOSE atmospheric seeing monitor at the William Herschel Telescope

Abstract
We have installed a Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor at the William Herschel Telescope. The sensor has 8 × 8 subapertures and operates at frame rates up to 865 Hz. It is used to monitor those aspects of the seeing relevant to the design and optimization of the future WHT adaptive optics system. Here we describe its implementation and present some sample results.
