The relative growth of internal organs in light and heavy breeds

Abstract
Relative weights of gastrointestinal segments and other internal organs from light [New Hampshire .times. White Leghorn] and heavy [White Rock] breed chicks from hatching to 21 days of age were compared. Relative weight of the duodenum and jejunum was higher in the light breed; the reverse relationship was found for the ileum and cecum. Relative growth of the pancreas, heart, cerebrum and cerebellum was greater in the light breed.
