Abstract
The essential oil from the aerial parts of the plant Senecio chrysanthemoides D.C. was analyzed using GC and GC/MS. Of the 19 constituents identified, nine were monoterpene hydrocarbons (5.16%), six were oxygenated monoterpenes (87.69%), three were sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (3.11%) and one was an oxygenated sesquiterepene (0.45%). The oil was rich in β-thujone (84.17%). Among the constituents, a new monoterpene 6-hydroxy-p-menth-4(5)-en-3-one was characterized using spectrochemical methods. Keywords
