Abstract
Needles from seedlings and mature trees of Pinus banksiana and from mature trees of P. contorta were analysed for their flavonol contents. In P. banksiana needles, seven flavonol glycosides were identified at all ages: kaempferol 3-Oβ- d -(6″-p- coumaroyl) glucoside, quercetin 3-Oβ- d -(6″-p- coumaroyl) glucoside, the 3- O -glucoside and the 3- O -galactoside respectively of kaempferol and quercetin, as well as smaller amounts of quercetin 3,3′di- O -glucoside. Needles of mature P. contorta trees also have seven flavonol glycosides but only four in common with P. banksiana : the galactosides and the diglucoside are present only in the latter. Keywords
