The pattern of gastric emptying: a new view of old results

Abstract

Gastric emptying was regarded as exponential in form, but this pattern did not account for all phases of a meal. A pattern of emptying in which the square root of the volume of meal remaining declined linearly with time accounted for the experimental results with less error.
