Photoemission from mass-selected monodispersed Pt clusters

Abstract
We report measurements of the valence- and core-level photoemission spectra of mass-selected, monodispersed Pt clusters. For individual samples consisting of the platinum atom through the six-atom cluster deposited onto a silica substrate, we have followed the development of the individual valence-band electronic structure and the Pt 4f core-electron binding energy, and conclude that such small metal clusters do not yet exhibit metallic character.
