Abstract
A review of research was conducted on family reactions to having a child with a disability. From this review, a conceptual framework was developed to locate the major research orientations that developed over the last century. Two new strands have emerged in more recent research, and the review explores how these approaches promise more useful interpretive frames for efforts to improve linkages between families and schools. Keywords
