Vield strength of two ductile phase alloys

Abstract
The experimentally determined σy–fβ curves of the yield strength of two ductile phase alloys as a function of volume fraction exhibit different shapes depending on the arrangement (or phase contiguity) of the constituent phases. An approach has been developed for predicting the yield strength of two ductile phase alloys. This approach can take into account the effects of microstructural parameters, such as volume fraction, grain size, and phase contiguity, on the yield strength. The approach has been applied to dual phase steels, α–β Ti–Mn alloys, α–β Cu–Zn alloys, and continuous W fibre reinforced Cu matrix composites. It is found that the approach can predict the different shapes of σy–fβ curves, and that the theoretical predictions are in good agreement with the available experimental results. MST/1778
