Monte Carlo approach to substation reliability evaluation

Abstract
The paper describes a Monte Carlo approach to substation reliability evaluation. The results obtained by this method are compared with those obtained using an analytical approach. The simulation procedure for component and substation evaluation is described in detail. The study results show that the simulation approach gives acceptable reliability indices when compared with the analytical evaluation and that the simulation approach permits the assumption of Markov models to be relaxed when substation data are available. The simulation approach is a useful and powerful tool for substation reliability evaluation.
