The focus of this paper is on the process of retirement of a group of self employed rural couples. The sequence of planning was constant for all groups and included a resource planning phase followed by a relationship planning phase. The need to further delineate the latter stages of the family developmental life cycle and the implicatiosn for retirement planning programs are discussed.
