Abstract
A simple, reliable method of demonstrating the veins of the leg and pelvis is described. Optimum phlebography of the legs requires the rapid injection of relatively large volumes of high-density contrast material with the patient recumbent, followed by a prone film of the pelvis for iliac vein opacification. The importance of iliac vein opacification is demonstrated in 5 cases. The study has proved highly reliable, yielding practical information in the clinical management of phlebitis, in the venous stasis syndrome, and in the preoperative evaluation of varicose veins, pelvic neoplasm, pelvic trauma, and suspected pulmonary emboli.
