Abstract
Analytical expressions for the backscattering cross sections have been derived for active remote sensing of an arbitrary number of random layers. These results are applicable to the interpretation of radar backscattering from vegetation and snow-ice fields. We illustrate the results by matching experimental data using the model of a three-layer random medium with air above and ground below.Keywords
