Abstract
The one– and two–photon absorption spectra of one–dimensional Peierls semiconductors have been calculated by taking account of the effect of exciton. In the one–photon spectrum, the lowest exciton state gains anomalously large oscillator strength as a result of one–dimensionality. In the two–photon absorption spectrum, interband transitions are as important as exciton transitions. Keywords
