Abstract
We have investigated colonic drug absorption in man by the caecal instillation of a multi-component solution of atenolol, cimetidine, frusemide, hydrochlorothiazide and salicylic acid. We found that salicylic acid absorption from this solution was delayed but complete whereas the absorption of atenolol, cimetidine, frusemide and hydrochlorothiazide was four- to five-fold lower than expected from oral bioavailability studies. Keywords
