Abstract
This paper reports on a comparative evaluation using quality control mechanisms of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) systems in three rapidly developing countries in the Southeast Asian region; Taiwan, Malaysia and Indonesia. Common attributes and failings of the EIA systems can be identified although they differ in many specifics. It is concluded that quality control mechanisms succeeded in highlighting the relative strengths and weaknesses of the EIA systems in the three case-study countries and offer a useful tool for this purpose. Keywords
