The SARS Coronavirus: A Postgenomic Era

Abstract
In March 2003, a novel coronavirus was found to be associated with the new disease known as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). In their Perspective, Holmes and Enjuanes describe new work ( Marra et al., Rota et al.) reporting the complete sequences of the RNA genomes of two isolates of the SARS coronavirus. The genome of the new virus differs significantly from those of all known coronaviruses. Knowledge of the completle genome sequences of SARs-CoV will facilitate the design of drugs and vaccines.
