Abstract

The absorption cross-sections of atomic oxygen, nitrogen and carbon are calculated, the first with rather more precision than the other two. Exchange wave functions and both the dipole moment and dipole velocity formulae are used. At the spectral heads the absorption cross-sections, in units 10 ⁻¹⁸ cm. ² , are as follows : O , 2.6; N , 9; C , 11.
