Abstract
The vertical fall of a gas balloon is analysed both theoretically and experimentally. The experiment can be used as a first-year classroom demonstration, and shows clearly that for the velocity range considered, Newton's draw law should be used instead of the popular Stokes' law. The usual procedure of describing many damping problems by means of a force proportional to velocity is also discussed. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
