Sodium Salicylate and Probenecid in the Treatment of Chronic Gout : Assessment of Their Relative Effects in Lowering Serum Uric Acid Levels

Abstract
Salicylate is more effective in lowering and maintaining uric acid at a low level than is probenecid (p-(dipropylsulfamyl) benzoic acid). Combined therapy did not nullify the uricosuric effect. Toxic symptoms may be observed with either drug, but tolerance to probenecid developed in 7 out of 9 instances.Keywords
