Hemostasis in Tonsillectomy: A Comparison of Electrocoagulation and Ligation

Abstract
The hemostatic efficiency of electrocoagulation versus that of ligation of clamped vessels for controlling bleeding points following tonsillectomy has been tested statistically in this study of 579 tonsillectomized patients. Electrocoagulation was used on 302 patients while ligation of clamped vessels was used on 277 patients. Both techniques have proved to be very efficient. The overall postoperative bleeding was 2.31% and 1.44%, respectively. Electrocoagulation has proved to be reliable, safe, and significantly faster than ligation.Keywords
