Hospitalized patients with psoriasis were studied with objective psychometric tests and psychiatric interviews. A similar group of hospitalized patients with other dermatoses was also studied. A high incidence of psychiatric disorders could be documented in those hospitalized psoriatic patients. The identification of particular personality traits such as denial of disease by some patients may explain some treatment failures with outpatient regimens requiring the patients' cooperation.
