A major unconformity is exposed along the west coast of the Island of Fuerteventura in the eastern Canary Islands. Radiogenic dates from sub-vertical stratiform rocks of basaltic composition underlying the surface of unconformity range at least from early Miocene through early Pliocene. A fossiliferous calcarenite presently 15 to 20 m above sea level was deposited on the surface of unconformity in a high energy marine environment, probably during the Quaternary.
