Abstract

The excess of boys in infant deaths has increased in the 20th century as infant death rates have declined. This inverse relationship is demonstrable in New York city and in a compilation of rates from advanced and underdeveloped countries. The increase in the male disadvantage in surviving infancy is not a function of time alone.
