Dimensions of Post-Hospital Care Decision-Making: A Factor Analytic Study

Abstract
Aspects of post-hospital care decisions were examined for elderly patients (n = 314) being discharged. Factor analysis identified 6 dimensions of the patients' perceptions of the decision-making: certainty about outcomes, family support for decision-making, restriction of choice, feeling of being rushed, control over the choice, and hypervigilance. These dimensions, supported by confirmatory factor analysis, revealed aspects of patient decision-making useful for assessing the quality of discharge planning.
