Recovery of gustatory sensitivity was compared in 13 young and 13 elderly subjects, following 2-min periods of adaptation. The results were compared to an earlier analogous study of adaptation to nbutanol. The earlier study showed that recovery was considerably slower in the elderly than in the young, unlike the present study, which showed fast recovery and little or no difference between the age groups.
