Audition via Electromagnetic Induction

Abstract
Three normal and two hard-of-hearing subjects were studied using an electromagnetic induction system. A magnet attached to the tympanic membrane or ossicles served as transducer and a clinical audiometer with primary induction coil attached to the output was the energy source. The coil was placed on the patient's mastoid. Pure-tone and speech testing were performed in this manner and compared with conventional audiometry. Sound sensations produced by both methods were compared, and no differences in speech intelligibility were noted.
