Abstract
In order to elucidate the mechanism of transport of CO2 absorbed by rice roots, a method for the direct collection of gas from the medullary cavity of the rice plant was established and the CO2 concentrations in the medullary cavity and bleeding sap of the rice plant were determined. CO2 concentration in the medullary cavity was enhanced by CO2 enrichment in the culture solution. The transport of CO2 absorbed by the rice roots was demonstrated and it was conc1uded that the greater part of CO2 absorbed by the roots was transferred to the tops of rice in the gaseous state. In this report, a hypothesis on the transport of CO2 absorbed by the rice roots was proposed.
