Generalized implicit cooperation with slotted contention in cognitive radio wireless sensor networks

Abstract
Incorporating the cognitive radio (CR) concept to cognitive radio wireless sensor networks (CRSNs) allows wireless sensor networks (WSNs) to overcome the spectrum scarcity problem and dynamically access the available channels. However, existing CR channel sensing techniques are not efficient to the energy-constrained WSNs nodes. In this paper, we present the energy-efficient generalized implicit aggregation scheme for slotted cooperative CRSNs. The proposed scheme uses generalized random channel sensing, slotted implicit cooperation with fixed decision delay, and simplified aggregation to achieve a green and efficient channel sensing technique in CRSNs. The proposed generalized implicit OR (GI-OR) saves about 62% of the energy consumption and reduces the decision delay by 81% compared to explicit cooperation schemes. Meanwhile it achieves miss-detection and false alarm probabilities of only 1%.
