Maintenance pharmacological immunosuppressive strategies in renal transplantation

Abstract
Summary: Current maintenance immunosuppressive regimens for transplantation are based on three classes of drugs: corticosteroids, immunophilin-binding agents (eg, cyclosporin and tacrolimus), and antimetabolites (eg, azathioprine and mycophenolate). Drugs from the various classes inhibit the immune system at different points and are thus synergistic when used in combination.Keywords
