A New Genus and Species of Pimelodid Catfish from the Río Negro and Río Orinoco Drainages of Venezuela (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae)

Abstract
GLADIOGLANIS machadoi n. gen. and n. sp. is described from the Rio Negro and Rio Orinoco drainages of Venezuela. It is among the smallest known pimelodid catfishes and differs from all others in possessing a massive, heavily serrated, pectoral spine; an adipose dorsal fin which is confluent with the caudal fin; and a lateral-line canal system absent from all but the anteriormost part of the body.
