Abstract
Values, norms and moral concepts are getting increasingly important and being discussed in all over the world with what they evoke in minds as well as with the sense that they make for education. In particular, when the rapport between value education and schools is questioned much, questions like “whether values education must be in schools or not? What are the purposes of the education? What are the basic common society’s values? What do common values mean? And how values education should be applied in schools?” are far from being answered. Education is not only an area in which rational knowledge and technical skills are building, but an area in which the cultural values, moral attitudes and behaviors are transferring too. Thus, the school acts as an institution in which education takes place under the supervision of the state by means of legal regulations takes over the function of meeting various expectations of the state, society, parents, and students. In Turkey, in 2011-2012 school year, values education has been started as a project in schools. In this project, described as a "solution to the erosion of values," specific targets have been set and certain values have been recommended by the Ministry of Education for each school year. These values are transferring to students via certain activity which are attached to Schedule described by definite comissions. This paper will examine the rapport between value education and schools, as well as the question about the aspects of its practice in Turkey.
