Syntheses and properties of substituted icosahedral carborane thiols

Abstract

Syntheses of twelve C-SH and eight B-SH carborane thiols of the formula HS,X-C₂B₁₀H₁₀ (X = H, Hlg, CH₃) and some of their properties ( pK_a, R_F, ¹H-, ¹¹B-NMR) are described. All compounds are crystalline. For C-SH compounds a new convenient route was elaborated. B-SH compounds were prepared directly from substituted carborane, sulfur and AlCl₃.
