Abstract
The configurations of martensite variants in Cu-Zn-Ga have been investigated. The crystal structure and lattice parameters of the martensite have been examined by transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction. The indices of the interface planes between variants have been determined by two-surface trace analysis. On the basis of the experimental data, the shape deformation matrices of the martensite variants have been calculated by using the phenomenological theory of martensite. It has been verified that the martensite variants are arranged in such a manner that their shape deformations cancel each other. Keywords
