Abstract
During the healing of an experimental skin wound, epidermal cells and granulation tissue fibroblasts (myofibroblasts) develop an extensive cytoplasmic contactile apparatus. Concurrently, the proportion of epidermal cell surface occupied by gap junctions increases when compared to normal skin, and newly formed gap junctions appear between myofibroblasts; this suggests that epidermal cell migration and granulation tissue contraction are synchronized phenomena. Keywords
