Abstract
Students in a Probability and Statistics course were given writing assignments that required them to generate and interpret statistics under the guise of a formal professional communication. This format provided opportunities to assess both students' understanding of statistical tools and students' writing abilities in an unusual context. To be successful at this assignment, a student needs to show some statistical and writing skills that are rarely elicited elsewhere. Keywords
