Abstract
The electrical conductivity of the pulsar surface in the presence of a strong magnetic field is estimated. It is found that the conductivity perpendicular to the magnetic field is $$\sim {10}^{4}$$ times smaller than that parallel to the magnetic field. The emissivity of the surface is found to be strongly affected by the magnetic field, and a strong polarization in the thermal radiation is predicted.
