Fat metabolism in fishes

Abstract
The fatty acid compositions of the glycerides of a number of algae, a higher aquatic plant and a marine diatom were examined. The distinction observed for animal life between the fats of freshwater and marine forms does not hold in the case of plant life, where fat type is correlated with botanical classification rather than habitat. The results suggest that while freshwater plankton Crustacea may deposit ingested fat largely unchanged, the corresponding marine organisms must modify it considerably.
