Upper bounds in the slant shear testing of perfectly plastic joints in concrete

Abstract
The slant shear test is frequently used to assess the bonding of joints in concrete construction but the information provided when the specimens fail along the joint line is not easily assimilated. When the failure is a ductile yield, Jensen employed an upper bound plastic analysis. However, the restriction of a plane displacement field found in previous work severely limits its application and yields unlikely predictions of upper bound loads for specimens. This paper presents a graphical method of demonstrating the jlow vectors in a yielding medium in the test and, following a plane stress analysis, shows the scope of upper correctly anticipating the space of displacements at failure is bound solutions. In this way the importance of demonstvated.
