Three-Dimensional Elastic Moduli of Graphite/Epoxy Composites

Abstract

The 3-dimensional elastic moduli are measured from testing simple ten sion, compression, and shear specimens. The results are in good agreement with the isotropic and reciprocal relations for a transversely isotropic material. Existing data obtained by ultrasonic techniques and another mechanical testing technique compare well with our data. The bounds of Poisson's ratio for transversely isotropic materials are shown to be zero and unity.
