Abstract
Suboptimal diet is among the leading causes of poor health, particularly obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and diet-related cancers.1,2 In the United States, dietary factors are estimated to account for more than 650 000 deaths per year and 14% of all disability-adjusted life-years lost.1 Understanding trends in dietary habits is crucial to inform priorities and policies to improve diets and reduce diet-related illness. In addition, identifying how such trends vary according to specific subgroups is essential to evaluate prevalent, worsening, or potentially improving disparities and inform corresponding interventions.
