Abstract
This article traces developments in the law on abortion in Ireland up to the present day. It begins with an historical overview, then discusses the legal context before considering in more detail political and legal developments from 1983 onwards. It concludes that legislation in this sensitive policy area is long overdue, and argues for a deletion of Article 40.3.3 from the Constitution. Keywords
