Cerebral arteriography during migraine prodrome and headache

Abstract
The arteriographic findings are described in a patient with classic migraine, who developed his typical prodromal symptoms and headache during carotid arteriography. Serial films were then taken before, during, and following the patient''s migraine attack and show a progressive decrease in caliber and filling of the internal carotid system with reflux into the vertebral system during the period of his prodromal symptoms. With the subsidence of these symptoms and the appearance of the subsequent headache there was a reversion to normal flow. The question is raised whether the arteriographic changes demonstrated in this case may represent the fortuitous recording of intracranial vasoconstriction associated with and possibly responsible for the prodromal symptoms associated with this patient''s attacks.
