Optical properties of PbI2and PbF2

Abstract
The optical spectra of PbI2 and PbF2 between their fundamental absorption edges and 130 eV are presented. A Kramers-Kronig analysis is made, and the data are discussed and compared with band structure calculations. A comparison with photoemission spectra provides a measurement of core exciton binding energies. In PbF2 it is as high as 9 eV, which is more than twice the size of those found in alkali halides.
