Abstract
Single crystals of tin oxide (SnO2) have been grown by a vapour-phase transport method and subsequently doped with europium. The cathodoluminescence of these crystals has been measured at room temperature. The spectrum comprises the intrinsic emission band of the host lattice and bands due to the presence of the europium ion; the emission bands due to the europium ion are reported for the first time. The europium is incorporated in the host lattice as Eu3+.
