Abstract
The performance of coherent polarization- multiplexed optical systems is evaluated in the presence of polarization-dependent loss (PDL) for linear and maximum- likelihood receivers and lumped noise at the receiver. The boundaries of PDL mitigation methods are discussed.Keywords
