Asymptomatic thyroid nodules: incidental sonographic detection

Abstract
High-frequency real-time sonography readily detects 3-4 mm thyroid masses that are too small to be palpated. A 13.4% incidence of unsuspected thyroid nodules of 0.6-4.5 cm was detected in 67 patients undergoing duplex imaging of the extracranial carotid. Asymptomatic thyroid masses are more common than previously reported.
