Two cases of fetal exsanguination after diagnostic amniocentesis are presented. In both cases clear amniotic fluid was obtained at the time of tap. The potential hazard of this maneuver is stressed as is the need for careful patient selection, prior placental localization, and availability of facilities for rapid delivery if necessary.
