Amplification in erbium-doped silica-based planar lightwave circuits

Abstract

The realisation of Er-doped glass planar waveguide amplifiers is reported. A net gain of 13.7 dB is achieved for a silica-based waveguide at a wavelength of 1.535 μm with a 0dB gain pump threshold of 25 mW.
